The affected aircraft are operated by Emirates and Qantas.

A total of 16 aircraft will undergo inspection, including 15 operated by Emirates and one by Qantas. Inspections of five Emirates aircraft currently in service are scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

The cracks were found in a structural spar running along the wing that bears a significant portion of the aerodynamic load during flight.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has ordered airlines to carry out urgent inspections of the wing spars on specific aircraft. The decision was made after routine maintenance checks revealed the damage.

Airlines operating the A380 include Emirates, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Qantas, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Korean Air, Etihad Airways, ANA, and Asiana Airlines. Emirates operates the world’s largest A380 fleet, accounting for more than half of all A380 aircraft currently in service worldwide.

Airbus stated that the cracks were identified during inspections mandated by EASA in December 2025. According to the company, the damage “may affect the structural integrity of the aircraft wing.” All aircraft with a similar production history have already been identified, and emergency inspections will be carried out immediately on five of them.

The remaining 11 aircraft may be inspected at a later date, but inspections must take place before their 13th subsequent flight or within no more than 25 takeoff-and-landing cycles.

The A380 has faced wing-related issues before. In 2012, EASA ordered inspections after cracks were discovered in brackets connecting the wing skin to internal structural components.

[9
["post-151820","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","newscat-novosti
["GET
