This was reported by the Russian media outlet The Insider.

The rate cut marked the ninth consecutive easing of monetary policy, but the market reacted negatively, having expected a more substantial reduction.

Moreover, the relatively small cut disappointed investors for two reasons. First, if the Central Bank remains so cautious, it suggests that regulators see significant economic risks and persistent inflationary pressures.

Second, interest rates remain exceptionally high, making borrowing expensive for businesses. As a result, companies are likely to continue cutting costs and reducing staff, while the broader economy remains under pressure.

The Central Bank of Russia also stated that a temporary decline in motor fuel production is among the factors increasing inflation risks.

“In effect, the Bank of Russia has, for the first time, acknowledged that problems in the oil refining sector have become significant enough to influence inflation assessments and monetary policy decisions,” the publication noted.

According to data from TradingView, Gazprom shares were trading at 106.3 rubles, their lowest level since the 2008 global financial crisis.
