Wang Chuanfu, Chairman of Chinese automaker BYD, has stated that the company aims to become the world’s largest car manufacturer by sales volume within the next five years. According to Reuters, he made the announcement during the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting at its headquarters.<\/p>\n
According to Wang, the key drivers of future growth will be aggressive international expansion, continued development of in-house battery technologies, and improvements in ultra-fast charging systems. The company is placing particular emphasis on scaling up production of its second-generation Blade Battery, which is currently considered one of the most important pillars of its business strategy.<\/p>\n
In 2025, BYD sold 4.6 million vehicles, ranking sixth among the world’s largest automakers. To achieve its stated goal, the company will need to surpass the current leader, Japan’s Toyota, which sold more than twice as many vehicles last year.<\/p>\n
BYD has demonstrated strong growth outside China. From January to May, the company’s exports increased by 65% compared to the same period a year earlier. Its largest overseas markets were Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Australia.<\/p>\n
However, the company’s international success has not yet fully offset challenges in its domestic market. During the same period, BYD’s overall vehicle deliveries declined by more than 20%, contributing to pressure on the company’s share price.<\/p>\n
