Brazil plans to increase its domestic oil production by approximately 30% by 2032, a move that could place the country among the world’s five largest oil producers, according to Nikkei.<\/p>\n
During a visit to a Petrobras refinery, President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva called on Brazil to take responsibility for developing its own oil resources. Otherwise, he warned, “Trump will think it belongs to him.”<\/p>\n
Recent developments in Venezuela, which holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves, have reshaped the global energy market. Following the arrest of President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro in early 2026, the United States gained access to Venezuelan oil and effectively took control of the country’s government.<\/p>\n
Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, operates the vast majority of the country’s oil production facilities and accounts for roughly 90% of total output. This year, Brazil plans to launch new production capacity at an offshore oil field near the coast of S\u00e3o Paulo and continue developing additional nearby reserves.<\/p>\n
Last year, Brazil’s total crude oil production averaged 3.77 million barrels per day. In April this year, however, output exceeded 4.3 million barrels per day, reaching a record high.<\/p>\n
Forecasts suggest that Brazil’s production will rise to 5.1 million barrels per day by 2032. This would surpass the output of Iran, which ranked as the world’s fifth-largest oil producer in 2024.<\/p>\n
For many years, China and the United States were the two primary destinations for Brazilian oil exports.
