These outflows exceeded the proceeds received from the issuance of foreign-currency domestic government bonds and financial assistance from international partners.

Several factors influenced reserve dynamics during May, including the National Bank’s operations in the foreign exchange market.

“Compared with April 2026, the National Bank’s net foreign currency sales decreased by 12.4% in May. According to the NBU’s balance sheet data, the central bank sold $3.135 billion on the foreign exchange market during the month,” the regulator stated.

The second major factor affecting reserve levels was government inflows and payments related to servicing and repaying public debt.

In May, the Ukrainian government received $599.2 million into its foreign-currency accounts at the NBU, including:

$498.8 million through World Bank accounts;

$100.4 million from the placement of foreign-currency domestic government bonds.

At the same time, $126.2 million was paid for servicing and repaying public debt denominated in foreign currency.

In addition, Ukraine paid $274.9 million to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

A third factor affecting reserve levels was the revaluation of financial instruments resulting from changes in market prices and exchange rates, as well as other related factors. In May, the value of financial instruments increased by $441.9 million due to revaluation gains.

According to the NBU, the current level of international reserves is sufficient to finance 4.7 months of future imports.

[9
["post-151716","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","newscat-novosti
["GET
