According to Bloomberg, the two countries reached the agreement during recent bilateral talks.

The parties agreed to increase India’s crude oil storage capacity to 30 million barrels in cooperation with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. The plan also предусматривает the creation of strategic gas reserves in India and the possible expansion of oil storage facilities at the port of Port of Fujairah in the UAE.

However, specific implementation timelines for the projects have not yet been disclosed.

The agreements were reached during a brief stopover by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Abu Dhabi on his way to Europe.

The backdrop to the deal was growing energy tension caused by supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz region, considered one of the world’s most critical routes for global oil trade. India, which imports around half of its crude oil and most of its liquefied natural gas from the Middle East, has been significantly affected.

The crisis exposed the limitations of India’s crude oil reserves and the lack of a fully developed gas storage system, which has already led to fuel supply restrictions for industry and government calls for energy conservation.

At the same time, the agreements provide the UAE with additional export opportunities outside the Persian Gulf. Following the partial disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the country intensified the use of the Fujairah port. On Friday, the UAE announced that a new pipeline to the port would become operational by next year, allowing the country to double outbound energy flows.

Separately, Indian Oil Corporation and ADNOC agreed to expand cooperation in liquefied natural gas trading and supply.

India already possesses strategic oil reserves totaling about 39 million barrels and continues to expand them, making the new agreement part of a broader policy aimed at building an energy buffer for Asia’s largest import-dependent economy.

[9
["post-151623","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","newscat-novosti
["GET
