Europe\u2019s dependence on natural gas supplies from the United States may reach an all-time historic high this year. This was reported by Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

According to the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), in 2026 Europe could purchase up to two-thirds of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) it needs from the United States, which would be an unprecedented level.<\/p>\n

Analysts note that the U.S. has a chance to surpass Norway and become Europe\u2019s largest gas supplier. At present, Norway provides the largest share of supplies.<\/p>\n

After Russian pipeline gas supplies declined in 2022, the EU moved toward diversifying its energy sources, but American LNG became the key replacement. At the same time, experts warn that this is creating a new dependency.<\/p>\n

The report states that the high share of LNG makes the European market more vulnerable to price fluctuations and geopolitical crises, particularly amid the conflict in the Middle East and risks to the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

IEEFA analyst Ana-Maria Jaller-Makarewicz said that LNG has become the \u201cAchilles\u2019 heel\u201d of Europe\u2019s energy security.<\/p>\n

According to analysts, in the first quarter of 2026 Norway accounted for 30% of EU gas imports, while the United States supplied 29%. In the event of disruptions to supplies from Qatar, American gas could ultimately take first place.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
