This was reported by the BBC.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"233\" data-end=\"468\">According to the report, the company informed employees in an internal memo about plans to reduce its workforce by 10% \u2014 approximately 8,000 employees. In addition, thousands of previously planned job openings will no longer be filled.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"470\" data-end=\"740\">The main reason for the layoffs is Meta\u2019s rising expenditures in other areas, particularly AI, with about $135 billion allocated for such projects this year. This is close to the total amount the company spent on AI over the previous three years combined, the BBC noted.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"742\" data-end=\"793\">A Meta spokesperson confirmed the planned job cuts.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"795\" data-end=\"1092\">The upcoming layoffs will be the largest at Meta since 2023. Since 2022, the company has gone through several rounds of layoffs, cutting tens of thousands of jobs. However, it later resumed hiring, and last year the total workforce returned to roughly the same level as before the initial layoffs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1330\">In January this year, Meta co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the productivity of employees who increasingly rely on AI tools.
