This was reported by the British newspaper <em data-start=\"278\" data-end=\"295\">Financial Times<\/em>, citing a source familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"642\">EU sanctions prohibit banks from accepting deposits exceeding \u20ac100,000 from Russian citizens, residents, and entities registered in Russia. However, cases were discovered within the bank\u2019s retail division where deposits above this threshold were accepted from individuals subject to these restrictions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"644\" data-end=\"845\">Deutsche Bank established a special task force to review its control mechanisms following the tightening of sanctions enforcement in Germany in February, which led to the discovery of these violations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"847\" data-end=\"976\">The \u20ac100,000 deposit limit was introduced by the EU at the early stages of sanctions in response to Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"978\" data-end=\"1247\">Last December, the EU added Russia to its blacklist of countries with a high risk of money laundering and terrorist financing.
