This was stated by the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, Reuters reports.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"320\" data-end=\"504\">\u201cNever before has the world faced an energy supply disruption of this scale,\u201d he said, describing the current crisis as \u201cmore serious than the crises of 1973, 1979, and 2022 combined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"506\" data-end=\"766\">Iran has effectively blocked traffic through the Strait of Hormuz following strikes by Israel and the United States. Normally, about one-fifth of the world\u2019s oil and gas passes through the strait, and the disruption has triggered a sharp rise in energy prices.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"768\" data-end=\"999\">Oil prices continued to climb on April 7 as the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump for Iran to reopen the strait approached. The American leader has threatened strikes on Iranian infrastructure if Tehran refuses to comply.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1001\" data-end=\"1154\">Brent crude rose by 0.2% to $110.01 per barrel, while U.S. WTI crude increased by 0.3% to $112.75 per barrel, continuing gains from the previous session.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1156\" data-end=\"1449\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The IEA chief noted that developed economies, including EU countries, Japan, and Australia, will feel the impact.
