According to <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Motor1<\/span><\/span>, the model has disappeared from the brand\u2019s online configurator, and the option to place orders in Audi\u2019s home market ended on February 18.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"458\" data-end=\"922\">As confirmed by company representative <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Marcel Bestle<\/span><\/span>, orders for the A8 in Germany were closed about two weeks ago. The availability of the model in other markets will now depend on remaining inventory and other factors. At the same time, the company has not yet announced the exact date when production of the sedan will end, although halting orders in its key market effectively signals that the model\u2019s life cycle is nearing its end.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"924\" data-end=\"1579\">The current generation of the A8, known as the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Audi A8 D5<\/span><\/span>, has been produced since 2017. The update introduced at the end of 2021 failed to significantly boost interest in the car or help it compete effectively with models such as the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">BMW 7 Series<\/span><\/span> and the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Mercedes-Benz S-Class<\/span><\/span>. During the facelift, a long-wheelbase version with the historic <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Horch<\/span><\/span> name was also introduced for the Chinese market. It was intended to compete with luxury <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Maybach<\/span><\/span> variants, but the move did not deliver the expected results.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1581\" data-end=\"1845\">Despite this, the final fate of the flagship sedan has not yet been decided. Audi says it will provide more details about a possible successor later. However, the key word remains \u201cpossible,\u201d as a decision on developing a new generation has not yet been confirmed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1847\" data-end=\"2201\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">According to German media reports, the manufacturer is still searching for a suitable platform for a potential successor.
