However, it earned 18% less revenue, as it has been forced to sell oil at steep discounts. Overall, revenues from fossil fuels \u2014 oil and petroleum products, gas, and coal \u2014 have fallen by 27% in the fourth year of the invasion compared to the last pre-war year. These figures come from calculations by the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air<\/span><\/span> (CREA).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"545\" data-end=\"779\">Over the past year, energy sales generated \u20ac193 billion for Russia, of which \u20ac14.5 billion came from the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">European Union<\/span><\/span>. The EU reduced its imports by 36% compared to the 12 months through February 24, 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"781\" data-end=\"1112\">U.S. sanctions against <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Rosneft<\/span><\/span> and <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Lukoil<\/span><\/span> at the end of October 2025, along with the EU ban on petroleum product imports refined from Russian crude \u2014 which India had been actively supplying \u2014 led to a decline in Russian oil sales, primarily to India, CREA notes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1114\" data-end=\"1392\">Although energy flows from Russia to Europe continue to decline, in January Russia\u2019s cumulative revenue from energy exports since the start of the war reached \u20ac1 trillion.
