Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced this during the company’s earnings call for the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, according to The Verge.

The Windows 11 user base grew by more than 45% year over year. While Microsoft did not disclose the exact number of active devices, it confirmed that the 1 billion mark was reached in the final quarter of 2025.

It took Windows 11 1,576 days to reach this milestone. By comparison, Windows 10 achieved the same result in 1,706 days, meaning the newer operating system reached 1 billion users about four months faster.

One of the drivers of this growth was the end of support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After that date, the system no longer receives standard security updates or technical support, prompting users to upgrade to Windows 11 or purchase new PCs.

Microsoft had originally aimed for Windows 10 to reach 1 billion devices within three years of its release, but the timeline was extended in part due to the wind-down of Windows Phone. Windows 11, by contrast, is developed exclusively for the PC segment and is positioned as the foundation for new features, including Copilot integration and AI-based tools.

[9
["post-151061","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","newscat-novosti
["GET
