Explosive demand for memory used in AI servers is driving up DRAM prices, prompting PC manufacturers to prepare for significant price increases across their product lines.

According to sources, Dell has already notified clients of an imminent price surge of at least 15–20%, with the changes expected to take effect as early as mid-December. In late November, the company’s COO Jeff Clarke admitted he had “never seen memory chip prices rise so fast,” noting that costs are climbing across all product categories.

Lenovo will also adjust its pricing, but beginning January 2026. In its notice to clients, Lenovo emphasized that all current commercial offers will expire on January 1, citing a global memory shortage and rapid AI integration in enterprise solutions as the main reasons.

Prices for key components — especially DDR5 memory — have risen 70% year-over-year, with some categories up 170%. As a result, not only Lenovo, HP, and Dell but also Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are revising their 2026 product roadmaps and adjusting strategies for AI PCs and tablets.

Analysts warn the situation may worsen. TrendForce estimates that the surge in memory prices has significantly increased production costs, forcing brands to prepare for higher retail prices. Consequently, the 2026 laptop shipment forecast has been revised from 1.7% expected growth to a 2.4% decline.

According to HP CEO Enrique Lores, memory accounts for 15–18% of the cost of an average PC — and further price increases will inevitably impact consumer prices.

[9
["post-150739","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","newscat-novosti
["GET
