{"id":150676,"date":"2025-11-27T12:00:49","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T10:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ldaily.ua\/?post_type=news&#038;p=150676"},"modified":"2025-11-25T19:52:43","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T17:52:43","slug":"sud-zobovyazav-meta-vyplatyty-ponad-550-mln-za-nedobrosovisnu-konkurencziyu","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/ldaily.ua\/en\/news\/novosti\/sud-zobovyazav-meta-vyplatyty-ponad-550-mln-za-nedobrosovisnu-konkurencziyu\/","title":{"rendered":"A court has ordered Meta to pay more than $550 million for unfair competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"115\" data-end=\"343\">A Spanish court on November 20 ordered Meta (META.O), the owner of Facebook, to pay \u20ac479 million ($552 million) to Spanish digital media outlets for unfair competition and violations of EU data protection rules, Reuters reports.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"345\" data-end=\"557\">The Madrid Commercial Court stated that the compensation to be paid to 87 digital press publishers and news agencies is related to Meta\u2019s use of personal data for behavioral advertising on Facebook and Instagram.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"559\" data-end=\"722\">The ruling notes that the American tech giant gained a \u201csignificant competitive advantage\u201d in Spain\u2019s online advertising market by unlawfully processing user data.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"724\" data-end=\"863\">The court found that Meta violated the EU\u2019s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and, therefore, also breached Spain\u2019s antitrust laws.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"1203\">According to the report, the complaint filed by Spanish media concerned Meta\u2019s change of legal basis for processing personal data after the GDPR came into force in May 2018.
