The first export volumes are expected to come from the Cronos field, which is being developed by a consortium of Italy\u2019s Eni and France\u2019s TotalEnergies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"601\" data-end=\"816\">A final investment decision on launching the project is expected next year, while gas from Cronos could potentially be transported to a liquefaction plant in the Egyptian port of Damietta and then shipped to Europe.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"818\" data-end=\"1125\">Cyprus\u2019 Minister of Energy, George Papanastasiou, noted that gas from the Cronos field could come to market quickly, as it can be connected to existing infrastructure that transports gas from Egypt\u2019s large Zohr field located 80 km away. According to him, the target date of 2027 is optimistic but realistic.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1127\" data-end=\"1481\">Cyprus is also holding negotiations with Lebanon on delineating exclusive economic zones, which would make it possible to open new areas for gas exploration and production.
