According to government insiders, officials are discussing the introduction of a new levy on EV owners to offset declining tax revenues from petrol and diesel sales.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"404\" data-end=\"614\">Preliminary data from the Daily Telegraph suggests that electric car owners would pay around 3 pence per mile (approximately \u00a30.0093 per kilometer), while hybrid vehicle owners would pay less.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"616\" data-end=\"839\">Under the proposed model, drivers would prepay for their expected annual mileage. If they drive less than estimated, unused funds could be rolled over; if they exceed their mileage limit, they would have to pay extra.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"841\" data-end=\"882\">A government spokesperson told BBC:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"841\" data-end=\"882\">\u201cFuel duty currently applies only to petrol and diesel vehicles, while there is no equivalent for electric cars. We aim to create a fairer system for all drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1052\" data-end=\"1472\">However, the proposal has already sparked significant criticism.
