(owner of Facebook and Instagram) and ByteDance Ltd. (owner of TikTok) of violating transparency obligations by failing to provide researchers with adequate access to public data, as required under the Digital Services Act (DSA).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"309\" data-end=\"471\">According to the Commission\u2019s preliminary findings, the procedures for requesting data access on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are overly complicated.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"309\" data-end=\"471\">\u201cAs a result, experts often receive incomplete or unreliable data, which negatively affects their ability to conduct research \u2014 for example, on whether users, including minors, are exposed to illegal or harmful content,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"719\" data-end=\"963\">The regulator also preliminarily determined that Facebook and Instagram fail to comply with DSA requirements to provide users with simple mechanisms for reporting illegal content and for effectively appealing moderation decisions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"965\" data-end=\"1219\">Meta\u2019s reporting mechanisms involve several unnecessary steps and additional requirements for users.
