{"id":150455,"date":"2025-10-21T18:00:02","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T15:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ldaily.ua\/?post_type=news&#038;p=150455"},"modified":"2025-10-19T16:40:36","modified_gmt":"2025-10-19T13:40:36","slug":"italijski-vydavczi-vymagayut-rozsliduvannya-proty-google-cherez-novu-funkcziyu","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/ldaily.ua\/en\/news\/novosti\/italijski-vydavczi-vymagayut-rozsliduvannya-proty-google-cherez-novu-funkcziyu\/","title":{"rendered":"Italian Publishers Demand Investigation into Google Over New AI Feature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"79\" data-end=\"340\">The Federation of Italian Newspaper Publishers (FIEG) has filed an official complaint with the national communications regulator Agcom, calling for an investigation into Google\u2019s AI Overviews feature in its search engine, The Guardian reports.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"342\" data-end=\"604\">According to the publishers, Google\u2019s artificial intelligence \u2014 which generates short, self-contained summaries of answers without directing users to original sources \u2014 has become a \u201ctraffic killer\u201d and poses a threat to the survival of the media industry.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"606\" data-end=\"865\">Similar complaints have already been submitted in several EU countries, coordinated by the European Newspaper Publishers\u2019 Association, which seeks to prompt an EU Commission investigation for potential violations of the Digital Services Act.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"1114\">FIEG stated that both AI Overviews and the new AI Mode \u2014 which combines information from multiple sources in a chatbot-style interface \u2014 breach key provisions of European law and negatively affect users, businesses, and fair competition.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"1114\">\u201cGoogle is becoming a traffic killer,\u201d the statement reads. \u201cIts products directly compete with publishers\u2019 content, reducing visibility and advertising revenue. This threatens the economic stability and diversity of the media, fueling disinformation and lowering transparency in democratic discourse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1424\" data-end=\"1721\">A study by the UK-based company Authoritas, published in July, found that the launch of AI Overviews led to a drop in website click-throughs of up to 80%.
