Deliveries are initially limited to Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Gurugram, where the company has physical outlets.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"547\" data-end=\"846\">Tesla had initially hoped to use its full annual import quota of 2,500 cars, but high tariffs and prices have put its vehicles out of reach for most buyers. The base Model Y costs over 6 million rupees ($68,000), while the majority of EV sales in India fall into the sub-2.2 million rupee segment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"848\" data-end=\"1016\">Demand is also constrained by tense U.S.-India trade relations and the high price sensitivity of the Indian market, where EVs make up just over 5% of total car sales.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1288\">Despite the weak start, Tesla plans to gradually expand its presence in India by building charging stations and opening new centers.
