Rosneft\u2019s Kuibyshev oil refinery in Russia\u2019s Samara region halted crude processing on August 28 following a drone strike, sources in the oil and gas sector told Reuters.<\/p>\n
According to the sources, both primary crude distillation units \u2014 CDU-4 and CDU-5, each with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day \u2014 were damaged in the attack. Parts of the refinery\u2019s auxiliary facilities were also hit.<\/p>\n
The Kuibyshev refinery had only resumed operations on August 21 after a major maintenance shutdown that began on July 1.<\/p>\n
As of publication, Rosneft had not provided a comment.<\/p>\n
The shutdown was also confirmed by Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine\u2019s Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council, who wrote on Telegram:<\/p>\n

Ukraine\u2019s General Staff further confirmed strikes on both the Afipsky refinery in the Krasnodar region and the Kuibyshev refinery overnight on August 28.<\/p>\n
The Kuibyshev refinery is part of Rosneft\u2019s Samara group of refineries, which also includes the Novokuibyshev and Syzran plants. The Syzran refinery has also been offline since August 15 after its AVT-6 unit was damaged in a drone strike. Earlier, on August 2, drones attacked the Novokuibyshev plant.<\/p>\n
In 2024, the Kuibyshev refinery processed 4.7 million tons of crude, producing 0.8 million tons of gasoline, 1.4 million tons of diesel fuel, and 1.3 million tons of fuel oil.<\/p>\n
