For comparison, in the first half of the year, average purchases stood at 1.8 million barrels per day.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"677\" data-end=\"929\">The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, seeking to reduce the trade deficit with India, has ramped up pressure on the country\u2019s energy trade with Russia. This includes doubling U.S. tariffs, which will take effect on August 27.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"931\" data-end=\"1080\">Volumes could change if India reaches a trade deal with Trump, and the U.S. eases pressure on New Delhi over financing Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1082\" data-end=\"1286\">Amid the need to secure a trade agreement and show progress on Ukraine, Trump has criticized India for purchasing Russian oil \u2014 particularly for the sharp increase in imports since the start of the war.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1288\" data-end=\"1534\">According to Kasatkin Consulting, before 2022 India\u2019s purchases were minimal, but the country now accounts for 37% of Moscow\u2019s oil exports.
