Ukraine is continuing negotiations with Azerbaijan on new gas supplies and is discussing the possibility of storing gas in underground facilities by non-residents. This was announced by Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk during the presentation of the Government Action Program in Kyiv.<\/p>\n
According to her, the Azerbaijani side is interested in this. A new contract may be signed before the start of the heating season.<\/p>\n
The minister clarified that technical consultations are ongoing regarding projects for partner countries to use Ukraine\u2019s gas storage facilities, as well as gas production within the framework of the U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Fund.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are working with partners, and we are currently holding technical consultations both on projects involving our gas storage facilities, to increase the share of partner countries in their use, and on production projects within the framework of the reconstruction fund,\u201d Hrynchuk noted.<\/p>\n
She also stressed that Ukraine is close to meeting the government\u2019s plan to accumulate at least 13.2 billion cubic meters of gas before the heating season, but hopes for larger volumes.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt could be more. We are counting on that. Although we are very cautious in our forecasts, because during attacks on the gas transmission infrastructure a significant share of production was indeed lost, and transportation was affected. However, a large share of the damaged equipment has been restored. We are now catching up with the pace we lost during the period when Naftogaz facilities were being repaired,\u201d the minister explained.<\/p>\n
As reported, at the end of July 2025, the Naftogaz Group signed its first agreement for the purchase of Azerbaijani gas with SOCAR Energy Ukraine, part of the SOCAR group.
