EBITDA dropped 55% to $263 million.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"463\" data-end=\"806\">Sovcomflot\u2019s performance has deteriorated significantly, with the primary reason being the tightening of sanctions from the U.S. and EU, according to an analyst at Freedom Finance Global. New sanctions packages and the inclusion of the company\u2019s tankers on \u201cblacklists\u201d led to idled vessels, lower freight rates, and operational disruptions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"1066\">In January 2025, the U.S. revoked Sovcomflot\u2019s fleet management license and imposed blocking sanctions on dozens of its tankers, resulting in a 29.8 billion ruble asset write-down. The EU further banned the company\u2019s ships from entering European ports.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1068\" data-end=\"1279\">As of June 1, 426 tankers of Russia\u2019s \u201cshadow fleet\u201d were under U.S., EU, and UK sanctions.
