The global electric vehicle market continues to grow: in the first half of 2025, 9.1 million electric vehicles were sold worldwide, which is 28% more than in the same period last year. This was reported by Electrek, citing data from the analytical company Rho Motion.<\/p>\n
The Chinese market continues to lead the way: 5.5 million electric vehicles were sold in the country in six months, which is 32% more than last year. Approximately half of all new cars in China are now electric. Analysts expect a new wave of growth towards the end of the year thanks to further injections of funds.<\/p>\n
In Europe, 2 million electric vehicles were sold in the first half of 2025, 26% more than last year. Demand is also fuelled by strong sales of hybrids, which grew by 27%. Chinese automakers are betting on hybrids as a way to circumvent new EU tariffs on imported electric vehicles.<\/p>\n
The highest growth in Europe was recorded in Spain, at 85%, where the expanded government incentive programme MOVES III is in effect. Sales rose by 32% in the United Kingdom and 40% in Germany, but in France, on the contrary, there was a 13% decline after subsidies were cut.<\/p>\n
North America showed the worst results, with only 0.9 million electric vehicles sold. Growth was only 3%. Separately, by country, Mexico added 20%, the US 6%, but in Canada, sales fell by 23%.<\/p>\n
The rest of the world sold 0.7 million electric cars, which is 40% more than last year.<\/p>\n
