The World Bank’s Board of Directors has approved a $ 212 million grant to Ukrhydroenergo for the manufacture of hybrid power generation systems. This was announced the day before by the press service of the World Bank.<\/p>\n
“The project will increase the flexibility of the Ukrainian energy system, which will help synchronize with the European energy network and decarbonise the energy sector,” the statement said.<\/p>\n
In particular, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) will allocate $ 177 million to Ukrhydroenergo, the Clean Technologies Fund (CST) – $ 35 million, including $ 1 million in the form of a grant.<\/p>\n
“WB financing will help reduce the risks associated with the synchronization of the Ukrainian energy system with the European energy network and help decarbonise it by supporting the integration of renewable energy, which should be more,” the Bank added.<\/p>\n
In early June, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a decision to raise $ 211 million in state guarantees for Ukrhydroenergo from the IBRD and the FCT as part of a project to increase the sustainability of the energy system, which provides for the installation of hybrid power generation systems.<\/p>\n
The funds will be used to install 197 MW of lithium-ion energy storage systems (CHP) at Kyiv PSP (46 MW), Kaniv HPP (3×22 MW), Kremenchug HPP (60 MW) and Middle Dnieper HPP (25 MW) in order to provide ancillary services for frequency and power regulation. Another 15 MW of zinc-air SNE will be installed at the Dniester HPP.<\/p>\n
In addition, 10.6 MW, 13.5 MW, 6.5 MW, 5.3 MW and 28 MW solar photovoltaic plants will be installed at the above stations (63.9 MW respectively).<\/p>\n
Hybrid battery-powered power plants will allow Ukrhydroenergo to provide the Ukrenergo transmission system operator with an additional reserve to maintain the frequency and expand the regulatory range of the automatic frequency recovery reserve, which is necessary to ensure reliable operation and operational safety of Ukrainian UES and electricity quality.<\/p>\n
Ukrhydroenergo operates all major hydropower plants located on the Ukrainian sections of the Dnieper and Dniester.
