Reuters with reference to the Volkswagen Group of America reported this.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The leak occurred after one of the company&#8217;s suppliers in the period between August 2019 and May 2021 left customer data on the Internet. The services of this supplier were used not only by Volkswagen but also by official dealers in Canada and the United States,&#8221; &#8211; said in message.<\/p>\n<p>An unauthorized third party reportedly obtained limited personal information about customers and interested buyers, which some dealers in the United States and Canada used for digital sales and marketing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The information was collected for sales and marketing in the period from 2014 to 2019 and was in an electronic file, which the supplier left unprotected,&#8221; the agency writes.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the leak affected confidential data related to the right to buy or rent, 90 thousand Audi customers and potential buyers.<\/p>\n<p>VW has said it will offer free credit card protection to clients who suffered from data leaks.<\/p>\n<p>It is known that confidential data consisted of driver&#8217;s license numbers in more than 95% of cases.
