In the United States over the past 15 years, 25 billionaires have paid a much lower income tax than they should have. ProPublica based on confidential data from the US IRS published the investigation.<\/p>\n
In particular, among the 25 billionaires are Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.<\/p>\n
Journalists compared the data of the US Tax Service with Forbes estimates of capital growth of each billionaire over a period of time.<\/p>\n
As it turned out, the fortune of Elon Musk increased by $ 13.9 billion, while the declared income of the founder of Tesla amounted to $ 1.52 billion, of which the state lost only $ 455 million. Thus, the real tax rate of Musk was 3.27%, and in 2018 it and completely evaded taxes.<\/p>\n
In turn, the wealth of Jeff Bezos from 2014 to 2018 increased by $ 99 billion, and he paid less than $ 973 million in income tax. The real tax rate was only 0.98%. In addition, in 2007 Bezos did not “pay a single cent of federal income tax”, and in 2011 received a subsidy from the state for $ 4 thousand.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the head of the Berkshire Hathaway investment fund Warren Buffett replenished the treasury with $ 23.7 million in the same years, and his own wallet – by $ 24.3 billion. His real tax rate was 0.1%.<\/p>\n
