The German authorities have chosen 62 large hydrogen projects that will receive state funding of 8 billion euros under the European Union’s IPCEI program (important projects of common European interest). The Ministry of Economy and Energy of Germany announced this the day before with reference to the head of the department Peter Altmeier.<\/p>\n
“We want to become a world leader in hydrogen technology. To do this, we join forces in Europe and initiate huge investments in the hydrogen technology of the future in the first joint European hydrogen project … We provide more than 8 billion euros from federal and regional funds 62 German hydrogen projects, covering the entire production chain – from the production and transportation of hydrogen to its industrial application, “- said Altmeier.<\/p>\n
Thus, 50 projects will be funded by the Ministry of Economy and Energy (4.4 billion euros), 12 – by the Ministry of Transport (1.4 billion euros), the rest will be provided by federal states.<\/p>\n
As part of the projects, priority is given to the construction of electrolyzes for the production of “green” hydrogen and the necessary infrastructure for its transportation.<\/p>\n
In addition, the government has identified the steel and chemical industries as key sectors in which hydrogen use could significantly reduce CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the government intends to invest in projects to produce hydrogen fuel cells, as well as hydrogen-powered trucks and cars, and in the development of a national and cross-border hydrogen refueling network.<\/p>\n
As you know, in June 2020, Germany adopted a National Hydrogen Strategy, which is based on the production of “green” hydrogen on the basis of renewable energy sources.
