In France, France Digitale claims that Apple violates EU law to protect user data.<\/p>\n
As found in France Digitale, by default, all devices allow Apple to “run its own advertising campaigns without clearly informing users,” although in the latest version of iOS 14 users are asked if they are willing to allow applications installed on a mobile device to collect basic identification data for advertising targeting.<\/p>\n
The association considers this a violation of EU law on the protection of personal data of users, as all organizations are required to clearly inform their customers about the collection of data and ask their permission for that. In addition, the location tracking feature on Apple devices allows it to share the collected data with other companies without prior notice to users.<\/p>\n
“We understand that this is similar to David’s battle with Goliath, but we are determined,” said Nicolas Brienne, head of the association, adding that his association would send its complaint to the French regulator CNIL, which is responsible for protecting users’ personal data.<\/p>\n
In turn, Apple believes that these allegations are unfounded.<\/p>\n
