Reuters reported, In Switzerland, the procedure of accelerated testing of Moderna vaccine has started. This will allow to approve the drug if it passes all clinical trials.<\/p>\n
\u201cSwissmedic can get an initial idea of the benefits and risks of vaccine candidates before the study is completed. This speeds up the review process and at the same time maintains the same level of thorough review of all safety, efficiency and quality requirements,\u201d the agency said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The peer review procedure is used during health emergencies to assess data as it is received. It allows you to apply for drugs before the tests are completed and all documentation is obtained.<\/p>\n
The Swiss Medicines Agency (Swissmedic) is also already studying experimental vaccines being developed by AstraZeneca and Pfizer using similar procedures.<\/p>\n
This week, Moderna said it had enough data for the first interim analysis of a late-stage vaccine trial. The company promised to publish test results in the coming days. On this news, shares of Moderna went up: during the main trading on November 11, securities rose by 8.4%, and the next day by another 6.5%.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Pfizer and BioNTech reported 90% effectiveness of their drug against COVID. Moderna reported that the vaccine it developed was not inferior to Pfizer.<\/p>\n
Moderna’s management expects that its vaccine will be approved for use in December. By the end of 2020, the company plans to produce 20 million doses of the vaccine, and in 2021 – from 500 million to 1 billion doses.<\/p>\n
