Introduced five years ago in Amazon’s warehouses the robots did not make the life easier for the employees – on the contrary, people are now forced to work four times faster. In addition, the robotics has brought Amazon warehouses to the record 14,000 serious injuries by the end of 2019. The current figures are to 33% higher than the level of injuries compared with 2016. This was reported by Reveal.<\/p>\n
The article tells that before the introduction of the robots, employees had to walk several kilometers daily in the warehouse in search of the right product. Now they need to scan and to sort the things that the robots bring. The movements have become monotonous, and they have to perform ten hours without a break, standing still, which leads to the large load. The work appears to be so fast that the standards for people have doubled and continue to grow – the rate of the processing of goods increased from 100 to 400 products per hour.<\/p>\n
“In the robotic warehouses not enough the employees, so people often recycle and get tired faster. Due to the sharp increase of the workload, the number of injuries has increased significantly, “- says the publication.<\/p>\n
It is reported that the authors of the investigation received the internal documents from the Amazon, which provide data on injuries in each warehouse for the last few years.<\/p>\n
So, in 2019, 14,000 serious injuries were registered at the company’s warehousing centers.<\/p>\n
“The term ‘serious injury’ refers to the temporary suspension from the work, visits to the doctor and possible restrictions for a short period of time “, – researchers explain.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the overall rate of 7.7 serious injuries per 100 employees in 2019 was 33% higher than in 2016, and almost doubled the industry standard.<\/p>\n
