Respectively to technical documents published on the website of the US Patent and Trademark Office, Apple engineers suggest using electromechanical materials for protecting electronic devices. The “smart” case will read electric and magnetic fields and change the properties at operation of certain triggers. The case itself will consist of the main body, processor, magnetic circuit and the magnetically sensitive layer, which includes matrix and magnetic particles interspersed inside the matrix.<\/p>\n
In some of the examples presented in the patent, Apple is considering magnetorheological elastomers (MRE) or electroactive polymers (EAP). During the fall, the case will read the surrounding space and automatically change of the stiffness and viscosity of the material.<\/p>\n
The outer part of the cover can be made of traditional silicone or leather, but will be significantly thicker.<\/p>\n
The patent also states that the material will change its properties almost instantly and the greater the height of fall, the stronger the cover will be.
