The management of the Hungarian airline Wizz Air will close a branch in Kyiv, that has three passenger liners, if its employees do not agree to stop the union. This is stated in the statement of the European Transport Workers Federation ETF.<\/p>\n
According to the statment, the conflict began after the decision of Wizz Air management due to the coronavirus epidemic to worsen working conditions for employees.<\/p>\n
They had to sign new contracts that provide for a 25% reduction in salaries and industry payments. Trying to protect their rights, Wizz Air flight attendants in Kiev on May 17 formed a union, and reported it to local authorities on May 22.<\/p>\n
According to the ETF, in June, Wizz Air CEO Jozsef Varadi issued an ultimatum to the company’s Kyiv branch: “Either you stop the trade union or we will close the Kiev base.”<\/p>\n
The new aggravation of the conflict occurred in late July, when the management fired four employees of the Kyiv branch involved in the new union – Yulia Batalin, Anna Teremenko, Artem Trygub and Andriy Chumakov.<\/p>\n
The ETF noted that a similar incident had previously taken place in Romania, where fired Wizz Air employees had been reinstated in court with an appropriate compensation.<\/p>\n
