Half of the 2 billion doses of coronavirus vaccine that the American company Novavax intends to develop, will be manufactured at its Czech plant Praha Vaccines, said on Tuesday at a press conference the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babi\u0161, who visited this enterprise near Prague.<\/p>\n
“Novavax wants to produce 2 billion coronavirus vaccines globally, of which 1 billion will be produced here at this Czech plant. Since the company Novavax presented here, we want to negotiate with them about the vaccine and may enter into an agreement (the supply), “- said Babi\u0161, stressing that the most important thing in this case – the safety of the drug.<\/p>\n
Novavax intends to apply in September to the Czech State Drug Control Administration for permission to conduct clinical trials of the vaccine in the country. “About 300 of our citizens-volunteers will be selected to participate in these tests,” the prime minister said.<\/p>\n
The president and CEO of Novavax Stanley Erk said at a press conference that his company’s presence in the Czech Republic is very important, in particular, in terms of future investment. “The Czech Republic has great potential in this direction, our company also has much to offer,” – said Erk.<\/p>\n
The Czech Republic is a participant in the European Commission’s initiative to jointly purchase a vaccine against COVID-19 by all EU member states. It is planned at the first stage to allocate drugs to each country for 3% of the population, at the next stage – for another 20% of citizens. The EC is currently negotiating with 6 manufacturers: AstraZeneca, Sanofi, Johnson & Johnson, BioNTech, Pfizer, CureVac and Modern.<\/p>\n
Another participant in the press conference, member of the government commission on coronavirus control, epidemiologist Roman Prymula said that the production price of the vaccine for EU countries will be about 3.5 euros.<\/p>\n
” Vaccine will be free for people. Future vaccination should be a matter of purely voluntary.
