The Colonial Pipeline is having difficulty once again

19.05.2021 News

Customers of the Colonial Pipeline pipeline network, which was restarted after the cyber attack, are having trouble. In particular, they may not reserve fuel supplies, update applications or perform other online access activities. This was announced on Tuesday, May 18, citing anonymous sources among shippers, Bloomberg reports.

The company itself said in a comment to the publication that it “now has problems with the network, affecting the ability of customers to enter and update applications,” and that it is working to restore service.

The newspaper clarifies that the largest network of pipelines for the supply of gasoline, diesel fuel and other petroleum products on the east coast of the United States passes about 2.5 million bar fuel per day.

It is known that in early May, the company was the victim of a hacker attack using a rogue program. In case of non-compliance, the fraudsters threatened to post it on the Internet and leave the computers blocked, the agency wrote. The amount of the ransom requested was unknown. At the same time, Colonial Pipeline announced the shutdown of the pipeline, which jeopardized the supply of fuel to gas stations in several densely populated states on the east coast.

At the same time, Bloomberg announced a possible increase in gasoline prices in the United States to the highest level since 2014.

The publication later wrote that Colonial Pipeline paid a ransom to hackers in the amount of about five million dollars.

US President Joe Biden later said that private American companies need to strengthen their own cybersecurity. In addition, such companies should be prepared to share information about how they protect themselves.
