The streaming service Netflix published quarterly reports, which did not meet analysts’ expectations on a number of indicators. In this regard, the company’s shares fell by 5.7% during electronic trading.
For example, Netflix’s earnings per share were $ 1.74, while analysts surveyed by Refinitiv expected $ 2.14. The number of new paid subscribers was 2.2 million, while FactSet analysts forecast 3.57 million, and Netflix itself in the forecasts for the third quarter, made in July, indicated a figure of 2.5 million. Meanwhile, revenue, on the other hand, exceeded analysts’ expectations: Netflix earned $ 6.44 billion against $ 6.38 billion forecasts.
The company explains the slowdown in the number of new subscribers by the fact that in the previous two quarters this figure reached record values: in a pandemic, about 26 million people signed up for services, almost as for the whole of 2019, and therefore now, according to the company, some reducing the growth rate of the subscriber base naturally. In addition, there is increased competition in this market. Yes, Walt Disney previously announced a reorganization of its business with a focus on streaming services.
