Denmark has banned the construction of the Baltic Pipeline

08.06.2021 News

The Danish Board of Appeal for the Environment and Foodstuffs has revoked the permit issued by the Environmental Protection Agency for the construction of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline.

“On July 12, 2019, the Danish Environmental Protection Authority issued an environmental permit for the construction of the Baltic Pipe. On May 31, 2021, the Environmental and Food Appeals Board refused to issue a permit,” the statement said.

The reason for this decision was that the Environmental Protection Agency did not sufficiently study the issue of wildlife protection when laying the pipeline. Now we have to suspend the construction of the Baltic Pipe indefinitely.

Margin Kaag, deputy director and head of Energinet’s construction projects, said that such a project “cannot but create inconvenience” due to its scale.

But we are fully committed to minimizing the impact on both humans and nature, as well as providing good conditions for protected species during and after the construction of the Baltic Pipe, she added.
